The Bloomington Fencing Club, Inc. (BFC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in the state of Indiana. The club provides members of the community the opportunity to learn and practice the sport of fencing.
The BFC does Olympic-style sport fencing as governed by the United States Fencing Association (USFA). We teach two weapons: epee and saber. This is not self-defense or reenactment but a modern sport with electronic scoring. Adults and children age 10 and up can participate.
The BFC provides all the fencing equipment needed to begin fencing. We encourage you to consult our coaches or more experienced fencers before you buy gear. Please wear comfortable sports clothes (it gets hot under the fencing jackets!), including long pants and closed-toe shoes.
Fencing is a very safe sport, and we at BFC take safety seriously. The club provides protective equipment to all members, and the weapons and scoring equipment are tested regularly to insure they remain in good working order. We also teach all new members how to behave and fence in a safe manner to promote an accident-free club environment. All coaches and adult volunteers are professional members of the USFA and have passed a background check. Coaches have completed the U.S. Olympic Committee’s SafeSport training.
